Mexico Program Updates

Updated travel information for Mexican citizens coming to Canada.

Wednesday, April 3rd

Our team has started to move forward supporting small groups of staff from Mexico, prioritizing those with early camp start dates. We are moving forward in small groups as we are not able to support everyone at one time. If you would still like Camp Canada’s support, please hold off on starting any applications until you hear from our team to confirm you would still like to proceed.

Thursday, February 29th

The Canadian Government released the news that as of February 29th, 2024 11:30 PM EST, Mexican citizens will only be able to apply for an eTA when traveling to Canada IF they hold a valid US non-immigrant visa or they have held a Canadian visa in the past 10 years and are travelling by air on a Mexican passport. Therefore, Mexico will now be considered an eTA expansion country and their citizens will no longer be eligible to apply for their work permit upon entry to Canada, which is the method in which participants in the Camp Canada program apply for and obtain their work permits.

If you would like to remain in our program, please do not begin any work permit applications online independently at this time.

While the news release says, “Mexican citizens who hold a valid US non-immigrant visa or have held a Canadian visa in the past 10 years...”, that point is only to say that if you meet these criteria then you are eligible to apply for an eTA, as Mexico is now an “eTA expansion” country. Regardless of having an eTA, this change means you can no longer apply for your work permit upon entry to Canada.

Even if you currently have a valid eTA, these will no longer be valid as of 11:30 PM on February 29th.

As a result of this, we’ve decided to pause any further progression on First-Timer applications whilst we consider solutions and get a greater understanding of what action steps can be taken.

  • If you are currently confirmed with a camp and are yet to book your flights, please hold off until we’re able to provide you with more information.

  • If you have booked your flights, we advise that you reach out to your airline provider to explore your options based on these Government announcements.

We are staying up to date with all information shared by the Canadian Government and we are finding out this information in real-time. Therefore, we’re being flexible with our support and we will continue to update you as we learn more. If you have any questions, please reach out.
